Some notes:
1. Don't make the a-ok symbol we make here in the US in Brazil, there it is an obscene gesture.
2. Brazilians use the term "gringo" but without the bad feelings hispanics mean when they say it.
3. Brazilians are a lot more blunt (honest) than americans, and women there have no problem telling one another that they're starting to look fat.
4. Pedestrian rights is an unknown concept to brazilian drivers.
5. Brazilians are a lot more influenced by clothing/outer apperance than Americans are. Don't expect to be taken seriously by brazilians if you're wearing shorts, a tank top and tennies (unless you at the beach). Also, expect to be ridiculed if you wear yellow and green (colors of the flag) when it's not world cup time.
6. The country shuts down for carnaval and during days when Brazil is playing important soccer matches.
7. Machismo is still alive, and the country is more race-conscious than they like to admit.
8. Brazilians are very sociable, and fun to be around. They find it strange that people would want to be alone.
9. Brazilians are not hispanic, the country was colonized by the Portuguese. They are proud of their distinction as the only portuguese speakers in the americas. They may or may not understand spanish, but may pretend not to even if they do.

Brazilians are outgoing, fun-loving people. Friends and acquaintances are greeted with kisses, more kisses and big hugs.
While Brazilians eat a light breakfast, the customary complimentary one in hotels for tourists often is an elaborate spread: several varieties of fruits and fruit juices, cheeses, breads, cereals, cakes, eggs and meat. In restaurants, breakfast, or cafe da manha, generally is served from 7 to 10 AM.
The main meal of the day is lunch, or almoco, which is served from about 11:30 AM to 3 PM. Dinner, or jantar, is served from 7 to 11 PM. In metropolitan areas Brazilians dine late. If you arrive much before 10 PM on the weekends, you'll probably be in the company of other tourists!

I know it involves lots of drums and girls in bikinis and guys in speedos. Also some samba music and bossa nova. Maybe a little coca cola, too. No grass skirts, though. That's Hawaii. And no wooden clogs, that's Holland.

I know that Brazilians think it's very insulting if you don't look them straight in the eye when "clinking" glasses at a toast.
