I think the avatars can be interesting and represent a basic image of yourself as you are, or as you want to be, or maybe be totally different from what you are.

However, you should keep in mind that the Answers team has determined that some basic kinds of questions can be considered in violation of the community guidelines found here, http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_...

One of the examples listed is ...

3. NO CHATTING OR PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS
e. Do you like my avatar?
=================

It's a common mistake, but I would really hate for anyone who is new to get a violation notice for something like asking about their avatar. I do NOT report people for this kind of stuff, because it happens a lot as people are starting to learn the site. Reports should be saved for more serious stuff, in my opinion. But there are people who seem to like to report everything.

Just something to keep in mind. Welcome to the site and enjoy it!

Well , i just found out about the hair option after seeing other avatars with long hair. Mine used to have short spikey hair which was not me at all, now it more or less looks like me., a white rocker dude with longish brown hair , still i think my own hair is longer.

I don't have as many choices as everyone else on here has. I feel cheated. So I picked one as close as I could. I am actually quite old. The avatar can't show that.

Tried to make it look as much like me as I could. Think I may need a make-over though.

I try to make mine look as much like me as possible. But I was limited due to Yahoo having few options.

It is pretty close to me 20 years ago....they don't have old avatar options. That's very close actually ...eyes are a bit too large.

I tried, but they have no avatars for 52 year old fat red headed people, and there's a glitch in my yahoo as I STILL can't put a picture on there....I've tried over and over and my 360 has several photos on it, but 'no can do'.

;) Myself, I believe what makes the BEST avatar is when the individual achieves a fairly-good in-depth self-portrait: I honestly worked HARD to CHOOSE the best options where mine WOULD be! :D

[I am honestly even MORE blue in my DL pic.]

Mine turned out to be an internal self-portrait combined with an external one--it looks like the sum of my self: philosophical, medical, all components considered, an image of the inadequately-breathing dead, a way of being honest with myself in regard to my overall health picture, a coping mechanism in its way [just like my nick, I think they make a good match]. ;)

I think that is the BEST way to reflect one's overall look, if one does in fact capture the WHOLE of one's *look*--looking outside AND INSIDE, the honest facts of their lives.

In that sense, I believe my avatar is a declaration that I am at peace with myself, my life, my fate, which is a gift I would wish for anyone on the path to happiness. :)

I think overall the avatar system is fun, light-hearted, and I actually appreciate the somewhat entertaining way to express my more macabre reality. ;)

I mean, where else can you find such a *cute* way to visually express that I have lost my ever-lovin' mind than that pic showing me there holding my head after it's gone and rolled off? ;)

I also appreciate that it gives ALL users the chance to sort through what they value, how they perceive themselves, how they wish to appear vs how they DO actually appear...what they hope to see in the mirror vs reality...whether they like ALL their components...whether they like THEMSELVES...key factors brought to light by your excellent question--THANKS! :D
