Games are generally programs which take a hell out of a Processors but if you want to know about a CPU which can help you is AMD Athlon 3200+ or above FX-2. The main advantage of an AMD over intel is that AMD Processors are all 64 bit. The FX-2 means it is a dual core 64 bit Processor but the Intels are all 32 bit except Xeon and Dual core in 32 bit is like Semi 64 bit type power. Moreover as the days go by more and more applications will be 64 bit, thus you don't have to shift them since you will be having 64 bit CPU. But if you wanna play games in a Laptop then you must go for a Dual Core Intel coz AMD Mobile technology is not as good as it's Desktop technology.

Currently, the Athlon 64 FX-62 from AMD, at least until the release of Intel's Core 2 Extreme X6800 on July 27. Bear in mind that a processor isn't everything, though, and that while their performance is great, their price-performance-ratio probably isn't.
