You might want to bookmark the link below -- it is a list of stains and how to remove them from furniture. If the upholstery reaches under the bottom of the chair, you may actually want to try putting some of the marker there and trying the INK solution and see if it works before trying it out in the open. Good luck!!

-hello grandma!
Hold yer horses there there is hope. Try these things until something actually works,
1st=try rubbing alcohol use a white or lite colored soft cloth to continue 'blotting' the are until the marker starts to lift, or
2=there are several products on the shelf at Dollar General, Dollar tree, Wal-Mart that can take out even perm. marker,
here are just a few:
OOPS!,
Whink,
try baby oil or WD-40, I've been told that WD-40 works really well on a lot of fabric for that problem, hey let me know how it turns out OK?

It sounds nuts, but I spilled a glass of Sprite on a chair while trying to Shout! The stain out. (I'm very clumsy!) and it worked. Try it.

If it's perm marker, use alcohol. And goodluck, will take a lot of alcohol and blotting to get it done, but be very patient it will work.

i think your best bet would be to call or email the company that made the black marker.
ask them what solvent or cleaner would work best.
