good answers so far but I'm gonna add to this by saying "calm b4 a storm" but, a "lull in a storm " meaning its not over yet! as in the eye of a cyclone or tornado has no wind, cloud or rain but, the tail of the storm has still to come, be it over land or sea.

Sorry if I'm being a bore but hey you asked!!

Hope u guys can have a good laugh about all us geeks n not fall out over this! lifes way too short!!!

It is "the calm before the storm" to refer to the sense of things going too well, and that you should prepare for something negative.

There is also "a lull between storms" referring to the period of peace after some sort of conflict when you feel a second conflict is looming.

Both are very similar and used interchangeably. It's a matter of whether you are looking forward (use 'calm' as the previous incident is moot) or considering the past (use 'lull' as it is a gap between past and future).

I tend to say "the calm before a storm", but on dry land it makes sense to say "the calm before a storm" where as when out on the sea it makes more sense to use the phrase "lull before the storm"

The 'lull' - but they both mean the same, so kiss and make up - you're both right!

OK - lots of people think calm, so I looked it up - see this page:

We're ALL right!
