Boy Scout camping trip, Dixie Springs,Mississippi, a long time ago. Two of us, first timers, were given the bags, walked way out into the woods, I mean way out, and were left. Hours later we figured it out. The smoke from the camp fire gave us direction back. We couldn't wait until it was our turn to be the old timers. We took a lot of verbal abuse for months. All in good humor, however.

I have been on many a snipe hunt and have never seen even a single one! Those little buggers are right crafty! If you do go on a hunt, take a big burlap bag in which to catch 'em. The bigger the better...

I have and had actually seen one. A snipe is a sea bird that frequents the shores of So.Cal. It is a small bird, brownish in color with a long thin beak for probing the sand for sand crabs. It has thing willowy legs. It stands about 6-8 inches in height.

I have taken a few people on a snipe hunt before. We even told them what to look for and what to listen for. They fell for it. We still laugh about it!

Yeah, you laugh, but snipes are actually real. No, I'm serious. They look kinda like sandpipers, but bigger.
