The Li batteries lose their charge holding ability over time. They are good for about 250-300 charge/discharge cycles, so that could be less or more than 18 months, depending on your usage. You can have apple replace the battery for $100. Which is crap. The damn thing costs, at most $25, including labor. You can do it yourself for about that. It still works, but the battery charge drops, dramatically. Mine can hold one for close to an hour and a half. I got it last August. :( It's definitely something to take into account before you drop $200 on one.

I have heard that that is the case. I read it in a New York Times review of the Nano a few months back. They offer replacement batteries on E Bay, and replacement battery with installation at many Internet sites. That's why I'm going to wait to purchase an MP3 player until this glitch is addressed. They have them with standard batteries now, but they don't perform like the Apple line. I can wait.

Yes, the Nano's battery does die after so many re-charges, as the users Chris and Yellowcab posted above.

Unfortunately, if you already have an ipod, it would be better to buy a different player that could either use rechargable batteries or AAA batteries.

It's time to boycott the iPod, it's overhyped, overused, and there are many good alternatives, although most don't have the sleek look and dumb-as-a-clown easy navigation.
