Bitte, kann sie englisch sphrechen? Mir ist leid. Mein(e) deutsch ist schrechlich. (Please, can you speak English? I'm sorry. My German is terrible.)
Wo ist die toilette? Wo ist die W.C.?(Where's the toilet? (water closet) -- Don't ask for the bathroom (badewanne) because they'll assume you are asking for the room in which to bathe)

Ich habe kein annung. (I have no idea.)
Haben sie zimmer frei? (Do you have a vacancy? Directly translated: Do you have a room free?
Ich brauche ein doppel zimmer mit dusch oder bad, bitte. (I need a double room with a shower or bath, please)
Ich brauche ein einzel zimmer,(I need a single room.)

Wieviel kostet das? (How much does that cost?)

Ich moechte eine tasse kaffee, bitte. (I'd like a cup of coffee, please.)

I moechte ein mal (I'd like an order of...)
pomme frites (french fries)
frickedelle (sp?) (it's like a hamburger shaped personal-sized meat loaf)

kleine (small)
gross(e) large

Darf ich?(may I?)

After a meal, you most likely will be asked, "Und, bist du (bissen sie frieden - more formal) frieden? Are you satisfied?

Hopefully, you'll answer, "Ja, Ich bin so frieden, danke." (Yes, I am most satisfied, thanks.)

fruestuck (breakfast)
mittagsessen (lunch)
abend essen (dinner)
nachspeise (dessert)
Vorspeise (appetizer)

Ich habe kein kleidungs (I have no clothes)
Ich brauche ein bad tusche.

seife (soap)
saft (juice)
torte (cake)
kuchen (our version of torte)
berliner (jelly donut) BTW if you want to say that you are American, you say, "Ich bin Amerikaner.
Amerikanerin (female American) Don't put ein or eine in this sentence like Kennedy did...Ich bin ein Berliner (I am a jelly donut).
This is not even a drop in the bcuket of useful words, but I'd say the very first sentences are what you need if you don't speak the language right now, and will be traveling there in the very near future.

LOL...20 billion, hmmm? There are several great crash courses (Berlitz is one), you can usually find one to borrow from your local library. Get a CD-version and play it in your car while you're driving and practice! I could TELL you (in print) how to count, but unless you're familiar with German pronunciation, it won't help you!
