Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what th average life expectancy of a golden orfe? My dad has fish in ponds and tanks all over the house and garden, we must have over 300 fish! But we were just interested as to how long the golden orfe live for, we have three that are seventeen years old!

In Poland, about 10 minutes.They are a delicacy and also delicious.

I have a Golden Orfe and he is now 15 years old, I have no idea how long they live but I am not looking to lose him yet. I would be very pleased for him to live as long as me if not longer - how cool that would be?

My parents finally lost their Golden Orf 2 years back and they had had that since I was little so it must have been 30+ years old.

They can live up to 500 years so I'm told! Although that is very exceptional. The expected length of life is around 40-50 years in a well-kept environment.That's the key,well-kept environment. Golden Orf's are very susceptible to the slightest problem,ie,water conditions,low oxygen.They are a very predatory fish,so keep an eye on your other stock.

golden orf are a distant member of the carp family so possibly over 25 years if kept in the right conditions

I have one left from a batch of five purchased 30 years ago. The others died after becoming deformed along their spine from about 15 years. The remaining guy is still perfectly straight and about 18 inches long.
