Why do you want to record some songs for your friend? If you answer that question then you'll be headed in the correct direction. There are many avenues that lead to a recording and you have to chose which one suits your purpose.
An easy way to go about it is to do-it-yourself. Well, not necessarily easy, but definitely less complicated.
Whatever you do gain as much knowledge about the business as you can BEFORE you step into the arena.
Get ahold of the book, "Songwriter's Market". It's an annual publication you can get at any decent bookstore for right around $20. The articles in the front of the book are invaluable. Read them!!! In fact, here's a link:

Start there, and good luck!

Well if you don't already own some home recording gear, the best thing to do is look about renting out a studio and cutting a quality demo there. Look around your area and ask bands or artists around for a good AND affordable recording studio. Have your friend learn the songs he/she wants to record perfectly so they can go in there and knock the stuff out. A good recording studio will charge you $700-$1500 a day, but that is for all day mostly, and if you know your stuff forwards and backwards they should be able to knock out a demo in a day. So much more info to give but too much typing. Cheers!

Buy him/her some time at a local recording studio. Or, buy your own equipment to record with: you can get a 4-track tape recorder for fairly cheap (this is good for just recording one or two instruments and one singer), or you can buy recording software for your computer (or if you have a mac, it comes with GarageBand, which will let you record instruments and voice).
There are many different ways to do it. I suggest you read up on modern recording (there are several books on the subject at Barnes & Noble and Borders, including a "Recording For Dummies.")

Don't pay attention to this stupid above.
You friends needs to record a demo. With the demo she can do two different things. She can go directly to the big seals and try to get a contract. Or, she can try to find an agent or a manager to develop her musical career.
Good luck

If your friend is a girl, have her sleep with a producer or record exec. Other than that, try AMerican Idle....
If all else fails, you can just do it the old fashioned way with tons of live shows, networking, and hard work.

I'm no longer a colossal fan of nation tune... however I realize every other songs that you just could like than can also be or have already been performed in acoustic. They're all kinda romantic songs too... I wish you favor them! *"Wake Up" by way of Coheed And Cambria *"Always And Never" by way of Coheed And Cambria *"Follow You Into The Dark" by way of Death Cab For Cutie *"Vermillion Pt. two" by way of Slipknot (it is a romantic music performed in acoustic and it is powerful, does not even sound just like the band!) *"Hey There Delilah" by way of Plain White T's (very standard and lovely music) *"Island In The Sun" by way of Weezer *"I'm Yours" by way of Jason Mraz *"The Way I Am" by way of Ingrid Michaelson If you do not like all of the ones there is consistently that one nation music that sings approximately 'you and me goin fishin at midnight'... I haven't any proposal what it is known as or who sings it although.
