A lot of people are complaining about the current situation with immigrants in the UK and often use the term non-English. What is that exactly, does it mean non-white English people or those who are not British Citizens?
A lot of people voted for the BNP whose first priority is to serve the indigenous (white British people). But I ask what about those people from places such as India and the West Indies who were invited over here after WW2 (by the government) to help rebuild the country. Are they not entitled to anything? My grandparents and parents came over here (from the West Indies) and worked their butts off and never received any support or benefits from the government (money wise) but they paid their taxes just the same and they are British Citizens. However, I do have a problem with those who come over here to just sponge off the system and those who are unwilling to integrate and learn English. I do not have a problem with those who come here to work.

What do you think?

No I'm talking about the rights of non white British citizens who have worked and put into the system. Are they classed as immigrants that seem to be p**sing everyone off.

A good question, Eboni, and I wish there was an easy answer. I am white British and totally ashamed of my fellow anglo saxons sometimes. I think that there is a lot of ignorance among the white population about the history of people, like your grandparents, who came here to work, to add to the economy. I for one enjoy the great cultural and ethnic mix we have, especially in London, where I live.

I'm not sure what I feel about people who feel unwilling to integrate. Is it because they feel so threatened that they get into a 'seige mentality' and end up feeling more secure with their own people? Have we made them feel so unwelcome that they feel they cannot integrate? Or do they have some other grievance or grudge? It is hard to say.

As for people who 'sponge off the system' a lot of those are british citizens too! There is a perception that asylum seekers get the best housing but I don't know what the statistics are on that. Also, it is hard to get a job etc when there is such institutionalised racism in our society. I am sure there are people who do come to this country because they think it will make their lives easier, and who do not want to work. I just have a problem with tarring every immigrant / asylum seeker with the same brush.

Here in the United States people often complain about immigrants and how they sponge off of our society, when if truth be told many of these immigrants will do hard labor jobs that most Americans would never be willing to do themselves. My family immigrated to The United States and they did it legally. I do get offended that my family had to suffer so many hardships and go through so much legal tape and now people just walk across the boarders like they own the whole country. My family had to learn to speak English and they had to agree to abide by the laws of this nation. They knew that if they broke the law they were to be deported back to their native land. Why is it that some races have to follow the rules and laws of immigration while others are simply allowed to break the law with very little to fear? My family also had to agree to be financially able to care for themselves and signed a agreement that they would not seek funding from the government. I am proud of my family and that they made a good life for our family. They taught us a strong work ethic and that anything that you get out of life is because you earned it.
I also learned that for my family there is just one race, and that is the human race.

Well done. We have been putting up with too many spongers for a long time and it's getting worse. Why should someone be allowed to enter the country and be on the same benefits as another person who has paid for that system to exist? The government has just not realised how the moderate person feels. One of these days it's going to wake up. Those who want to come to work and pay into the system are welcome. The rest should be made to return.

I do agree with what your saying. People who pay taxes for a certain amount of time should have the benefits of living in this country but people who stay here to sponge of the state is wrong. Take the afghans who hijacked that plane for example they got to stay in the country and are being paid for by the British taxpayer instead of bein sent back wheres the justice in that? No wonder Charles Clark got sacked!

i come from a part of the UK were the Black and Asian population is very light i don't think so much that it is the Black and Asian immigrants that are the problem it is the influx of eastern block illegals coming to the UK. although the Muslim faiths refusal to inter grate into the community is not helping as you could not go to mecca and practice you own faiths rituals so why should they be able to do the same, when in Rome and all that,i am not against the Muslim faith as at its basic form it has some very peace loving ideals.it is just i feel all religion is the main cause of hate. your grand parents were a different mentality they truly wanted to contribute to society and i applaud that attitude and truly thank every man woman and child that fought for our freedom giving us this right to air our views regardless of colour or creed so if they are still around say thank you for me as i was always thanking my grand parents.

firstly, if immigrants are so 'hardworking' why are 'their ' countries a third world entity in most of the cases.?? should not their labours improve the nation from whence they came?...England at the turn of the centrury was a true great nation that had great industry and commerce that was exported all over the world .And yet most of the population could barely read or write. What was the work ethic that drove these simple uneducated people?..freed slaves had more laws to protect them from abuse when children were dying of starvation in this country. And that work ethic was prevelant for hundreds of years before that.England needed nothing from any other nation that we didn't have already. Trade of goods from other countries into England benefited everybody. it provided work for poorer nations.India was given independence for war service as were other colonies. None of which have since prospered on their own.
my dad fought on behalf of black people in ww2 and didn't expect anything extra , so why should you.??????

In general I agree with you. The British economy is quite dependent on the skills and labour brought into the country by immigrants; if someone genuinely wants to contribute to Britain let them come. Those who only want an easier life, or to spread hatred, or who want all the benefits of living in Britain whilst retaining a way of life foreign to this country, they are not welcome.

criminal Albanian immigrant? Do you recommend an Albanian who has been granted the right to stay right here? if so, they could possibly have a similar rights as all and sundry else. An unlawful immigrant might want to possibly only be entitled to emergency care.

Whatever your origin if you are born and brought up in Britain you are British. You are correct that immigrants should try to integrate although not to the point of completely rejecting their own culture. We should embrace the Vulcan ideal of IDIC - infinite diversity in infinite combinations. It is hard to embrace change but a society that remains static will die.
