Whenever my son was born, I was on medicaid and his father and I were together but not married. Medicaid paid for all the hospital bills and my 6 wks check-up after he was born. Medicaid is provided to pregnant women who can't afford insurance, so don't worry, breathe, and relax : ) Ur girlfriend will not continue to get medicare after her 6wks, but the baby will receive it until he's one, After that I signed my son up for Florida Kid Care, I'm quite sure u have a similar type of program in ur area.
As far as the laws concerning the last name, try contacting ur local children and families, and they should be able to direct u in the right direction. Hope this information helps, and good luck!
P.S I like the name Bryce.....it would go really well with Liam being the middle name
u can email me if u need more help @ bettinahaye@yahoo

Give the child your last name. No the medicaid will not be taken away. Under Georgia Laws the baby is automatically elligible for one year, after that year your income and the mothers income will be taken into consideration if the baby stays on it. Call the local DFAS office and they can answer that question for sure being that laws are different from state to state. Don't make the mistake of not giving the child your name because the process to change the last name is costly and difficult.

Yes social services will track you down and you will be stuck with the whole bill. Maybe before making the decision of bringing a child into the world you and your girlfriend should have been more prepared.

No you won't get stuck with the bill. The mother is covered by medicare because she is pregnant, and after the baby is born, the baby is automatically covered for the first year. Stop stressin!

no, you will not get stuck with the bill.It will take care of any bills that the baby has while in the hospital, but you will have to show proof of income and if you have a way to get insurance on the baby, you will have to do that after it is born and home. But the birth and all will be covered by her medicaide.

Its medicaid. And if she is a legal guardian wether she has a differant last name than the baby or not than medicaid will still cover the baby. The only way they will discontinue is if her income changes and she makes to much. She can let medicaid know before she has the baby what the name will be. They go by the total household income the baby is living in.

It depends on the state you live in. Your name on the birth certificate doesn't have anything to do with it. It will come up at the child support hearing. If your girlfriend is on state-aid, they will come after you for support, even if she doesn't wish it. My sister just went through the same thing (She has twins) and her ex has to pay for the cash assistance from when she was pregnant. I'm not sure about the medical part. I know he had to put the twins on his insurance though.

YOU WILL NOT GET STUCK WITH THE BILL!!! My daughter was given my boyfriend's last name when she was born. We were not married, and I was on Medicare. They still paid for everything and they never asked him for any money.

Nope they wont take it my daughter has my b/f's last name and I still have my card and the baby's. Congrats daddy. I put my b/f on my daughters and she ended up with his last name but his name wasn't on there. They have never came after him for childsupport and she has A medicare card too. I hope everything works out. Don't listen to people who say don't put your name on it because you don;t want your child growing up and asking why you didn't sign it.
