I was a short little "braniac" in high school. I was athletic, and wasn't really "nerdy," I suppose. But I never considered myself one that might catch the attention of the females who always got more attention than they wanted.
One day one such female, with whom I was a pretty good friend, but for whom I'd never so much as hinted about my interest, leaned over (like I say, I was short) and whispered, "You have to be the cutest guy in this entire school."
Needless to say, it was nearly too much for my pubescent, hormone-driven mind and body to take. But red-faced, took it I did with as much grace as I could muster ..... Yeah ..... That was the most surprising thing anyone's ever said to me.

When I was in the military, a girl I had been seeing (platonically), looked into my eyes and said "I want you". I didn't know what she meant, because I was still a virgin. I found out what she wanted. Since that time, several ladies have uttered that phrase, and I always thought it to be the greatest compliment......

i once loved a girl, even thought i might one day marry her, until she broke it off with the excuse that "i always wanted to be with someone taller than you." points for honesty were given, but it hurt. it hurt in a strange way that i never thought being 5' 10" would make me feel. i had never thought of myself as short, nor had i ever wished that i was taller. and after that day i started disliking taller men in a way i never imagined i would. what a jerk!

A high school classmate wrote in my yearbook that I was someone who had her head on straight. I had thought for years that she hated me. And, at that point, I would not have described myself that way! It was a nice compliment.
