Your first move would be to get to Aberdeen, that's where all the offshore jobs are. If you have a construction background apply to KBR. If you want to be a roustabout then I'd suggest going direct to the drilling company, Noble Drilling, Parker Drilling, Transocean. Because of your age you might face problems but I'm not sure what it's like now under 78 dollar oil.

I do Wireline logging personally so I don't know much about being a roustie, we have operators who work with us, they are generally mechanically gifted but without a degree level qualification. If you can get a diesel engine running and don't mind a few sleepless nights then you could try applying to a few service companies, Eg Sclumberger (Spits on floor), Baker Atlas, Weatherford or Halliburton.

You could do cementing, slickline, Coiled Tubing, Snubbing Units, TCP (Perforating with Explosives), Seismic, the list is endless have a look around to see what you like the look of.

I wouldn't bother applying to the Oil companies themselves, the likes of Shell generally employ only PHd level people who manage projects that are performed by contractors (service companies) and consultants.
There are plenty of jobs floating around. I have been in the industry for 8 years and I've travelled to 31 different countries. If you need more advice just add a comment when you vote mine as the best answer :)

A starting point may be to write to "Shell" at "Althens Industrial Estate" "Aberdeen"
