I have a lot of music and I'm running out of memory. I know there's a way to compress audio files using Microsoft Word, but I don't know how to.

First, MS Word does not compress files/folders. That is done as a function of Windows OS.

To compress a file or folder, make sure that it on a volume of your computer which is formatted in NTFS. Then, right-click the file/folder, and select "Properties." Click the "Advanced" button, and check the "Compress" option at the bottom.

Remember, this may slow down any function when it has to read that compressed file/folder.

A better suggestion would be to move some of those files off your computer. Burn them to hard disk/CD/DVD. Move them to an external hard drive. Delete anything you no longer use.

Microsoft Word is a word prosser, it doesn't do anything with audio files. Compressing files is a bad idea anyway, because they can get ruined in the process. It would be better to burn your music onto Cd's, and then delete the file from your computer. Or if you don't want a bunch of Cd's laying around you can buy a flash drive, which is basically a portable hard drive, and put your music on there.
