Does anyone here think Chris Brown is simply over-rated?
Simply using the fact that you are 16 (Now 17) years old does not compensate for a lot of artistic weaknesses which should not be overshadowed by youth.

As an artist, he is not that impressive and seems like more of a "wannabe" if you look from a distance.
For instance:
-Of the 17 songs on his debut, he only CO-wrote 6 songs (none of which were singles) and didn't write ANY song on his own. I would not be surprised if this "co-writing" resulted in him only contributing a line, or single verse.

-He doesnt play any instruments, and has not receieved any vocal training. He has only been singing for about 5 years now which is not much experience at all in contrast with other artists (Yes, including other young ones).

-The hype surrounding him seems quite hollow and i'm surprised that so many people are falling for it

-Honestly, his singing voice is annoying and sounds like an adolescent who hasn't hit puberty yet

I think that most artists coming out now are overrated and that they really don't have true talent like those "back in the day". It's not about singing anymore, but it's about being an entertainer. If you can dance really well, shake your booty, Swing your hips while looking good at the same time-then you can be a musician. Chris Brown cannot sing to me but he is popular because his beats are nice, he doesn't look at all ugly, and he can dance. People like to be entertained and "dancing" is entertaining.

I agree with you. His voice is weak, I don't listen to black music nowadays, it's too pop-ish for me. If I listen to the old stuff. Chaka Khan, Prince, New Jack Swing Era, Smooth Jazz, Classical Etc....things like that. Music these days are weak.

I think his music is ok... it's the kind of thing where I don't mind hearing it on the radio, but I wouldn't buy the CD

But what's funny is how many questions there are about him on Yahoo!! There are soooo many! I didn't realize he was that popular, because he's not really that big where I live.

I don't like him because of his lack of creativity. He isn't involved with the creative process of making his music. He is just a meal ticket for somebody who hasn't eaten since Usher was a little boy!

I think he sounds a little too much like Michael Jackson when he was younger, especially his song "Run It."
