Gun looks like a big watergun. Paint balls are brightly clored balls.

Paintball is a shooting game done with paintball guns. Originally these guns were used to mark trees and landscapes for workers. The paintballs are about 65 caliber (or thereabouts) and come in a variety of colors. Players wear heavy padding (yeah, those little balls HURT like crazy if you're not careful) and clothing which can be covered in ...well...paint. Teams are chosen for a "Capture the Flag" type game or "Commando Trainign" or just about any reason to shoot eachother with Non-Life Threatening Guns.

At its essence, paintball is a competitive game played like any other competitive game, to win. It is like a more challenging, high-stakes version of tag, hide-and-seek, or capture the flag. Because you shoot at other people (and get shot at!), paintball requires specific equipment (goggles, a gun/marker, pressurized gas, and paintballs).
