I get 40 hours of sick time each year. I can roll that time over into the next year but am limited as to how much time I can accumulate.
I am currently up to 210 hours.
If I get really sick (heart attack, stroke, some long term illness) I can only use 72 hourse of sick time at one time. If it goes beyond that I have to go on short term leave of absence which pays me 2/3rds of my salary, not my income (I am partially compensated with commision).
I will never be able to effectively use the sick time that I have accumulated. Therefore, when I feel like I would like to have a day off or just need a refresher, I call off sick.
Do you think that's wrong?

I don't now, becasue I like my job. And frankly, it's easier to be there than be absent even when I am sick. It's not worth the prep work I'd have to do to be out. Might as well go!
But before when I worked retail, it's easier to call in sick than to give the real reason or make up a silly reason. If you're sick, you get less hassle from the m.o.d.
Some companies don't dock you sick time the same way they do "personal" time. So calling in sick could be better for you than calling in for "personal" reasons when it comes to their pay.

The best reason to call in sick is because you just met this wonderful girl and have to spend more time with her.
So many hours shaving, talking to people, going to bars and just all around just going out; for what? To meet a nice lady to spend the night with.
Once the night has started; why not be sick the next day. Make breakfast.. take it slow. Go for a third or fourth round... but do not go in to work... that is where we spend too much time anyways. Why not spend it with this new lady that you just met. Enjoy the sweet sweet taste of a new friend.

I own a small company and work from home much of the time...so it's a little easy to lose self-discipline and "call in sick". Most of the time, it's when business is slow and I'd rather go shopping then market for new business, which is my least favorite thing about my job.

I don't call in sick. I've only used sick leave for doctor's appointments. I'm a very reliable employee.

I don't. If I need a day off and I'm not sick I request a personal day off.

I have something I'd rather do. The job I used to call in at all the time sucked anyways...
