It is at first, like most things. Something new always tends to scare people. Try starting a a slow trot and slowley get faster and faster. Your horse depends on how hard it is to stop. Considering it is your first time, and if you horse doesnt listen real well, a harsher bit might be a good idea. Good luck!

When I first started, even basic walking frightened me. However, I got used to it quickly, as I am sure has anyone that rides. I was nervous, too, when I began galloping, although I assure you that it is great fun and, although it is a little frightening at first, it is definitely worth learning. You shouldn't worry about it being difficult to stop; horses are intelligent animals, and are quite aware when their rider is frightened or uncomfortable, and are usualy reluctant to move quickly if this is the case, as you probably know. After a few tries you'll be fine with galloping; as with everything, it just takes a little time and effort.
I wish you all the best, and enjoy!

i was a daredevil as a child and I still am. I really push my horses sometimes when it coems to galloping. The first time it happened, I was riding my mare bareback and all I had was a lead rope tied to her halter. I accidentally kicked her too hard and she took off at a gallop. I was scared at first then practicality took over. My exact thought process was "OMG she is galloping. I have never done this. I am going to throw my self off and if I die it will be not in vain. Wait. This is really smooth. I am still seated. It is really comfy. Wow!" From then on I would race my friends against their horses and never lost a race. I alwas managed to push my horse faster and faster. stoppping depends on the horse. I have had a few problems getting my horses to stop as they love to run but it usually isnt hard.

If it's your first time riding, then yeah, Gallpoing can be really really scary ^ ^ I know it was the first time I did it. However, as long as you know how to ride well, you should be ok, and Gallpoing getts better as your body becomes used to the motion of it. Stopping isn't hard if you have a well behaved, well trianed horse, it just takes a little extra time, Horses don't have automatic brakes liek cars, they don't just stop (unless you want to get thrown off) they gradually slow down.

Take it from someone who has been riding since i was 6 months old! If it is your first time it isnt soo bad but when you want your horse to stop pull back on the reins and say whoa! if you dont like the pace slow your horse down by just pulling back on the reigns a little bit. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

It is just as hard to stop a horse from galloping as any of the other gaits, as long as it's not running in fear- then it might take a bit longer.
If you are used to cantering, it's just like they go up a gear, not all that different really. Quite fun :)

Not if you have a good whoa on your horse. If you don't then you need to begin there. Your horse should stop and stand still when you say whoa no matter how fast you are going. If they don't do it at a walk then don't proceed to a trot until they whoa at a walk and so on. Once you've got a whoa then there's no problem. Good luck

OMG not to be rude but galloping is so fun. i accidently did it once. my horse is very high spirited and he took off on me. i didnt even feel it at first but he was at his top speed. and this horse doesnt have brakes. but it desnt firghten me because there is no way to stop him but to keep riding him in small circles until he slows down. i cant even get him to stop at a walk or trot. but i grew very comfortable with him and only i know how to stop him. he is a very calm horse but when you get him going he can really scare people but it depends on how comfortable you are with the horse and yourself

if you have the basics down, then not at all! A well trained horse should stop pretty easily by light pressure on the reins, if not, turn the horse in a tight circle. It's fun =)

Its not scary unless you have no control over your horse, and stopping is reletively easy if you have control and a good horse. If the horse has behavior issues they will become harder to stop. Also, they will become harder to stop if they know the rider is scared and has no control.
