They are very closely related (not opposites)...both are strong emotions...however to love something is to accept it and care about it deeply, to hate is to despise and detest/dislike...
I would not think a real feeling of love could easily turn into hate...the trangression would have to be quite severe for one's emotions to take that kind of turn...

Can love really turn to hate
These two opposites are strong
The words they vibrate
Tell me that something is wrong
How can I feel so stongly
And let my emotions win
Over the anger and love I posses
Is hating you a sin
When once great friends we were
Or were we
Our past is starting to blur
Could it be
I just put up with you
Cause that's what I did
Hiding emotions
That blew up in the end
I was absent from you
For a little while
And in that time I learned
That true friends make you smile
They don't put you down
And they tell you the truth
They don't talk about other friends
And they don't lie to you
Well so you came back
I saw your inner *****
It shinned like a light
But I just held it in
Like before
I didn't tell you the truth
That you needed a life
And that I was starting to hate you
But then today
You made one big mistake
You talked **** about two good friends
Something in me had to break
I went off
And I finally told you the truth
That your a *****
And now I hate you
So like I said
Can love turn to hate
Yes it can
You just have to wait
It could happin
And I hope not to you
Because it sucks
But ain't that the truth

Easy - love requires trust and vulnerability because of exposure to your deepest fears of rejection. If someone rejects you, your "love" can turn to "hate". If someone breaks your trust in them you can not easily return to a state of bliss.
Any strong emotional bonds cause a person to hold on to them tightly. When they are severed one must protect them-self from further emotional injury. We do that by rejecting the feelings we had for the other person. If we don't balance a strong positive emotion with an equally strong negative we may spiral into depression. The stages of mourning the loss of a loved one progress so that we may protect ourselves.

in case you hate someone sufficient their is the opportunity of putting them on a pedestal, and mistaking the psychological, and emotional adventure as love, and getting carriede away up contained in the clouds because you experience severe and in love. on feeling rejection you proceed to push the guy off the pedestal, your mood takes the plunge and also you drop from a spectacular excellent, and if you're no longer smart you could blame them on your thoughts of self hatred, low esteem ,or although they're that motives your anger, its frequently a significant resentment. i ought to write on a lot extra yet i imagine I easily have defined sufficient that you could be getting on with in the meanwhile. OH! and by the way in case you dont favor to wish for the guy, then sit quietly and placed out compassion for them, and manage your self kindly pretty in case you experience weak.

When you love someone you open yourself up so much that you become vulnerable. When someone, in turn, betrays that love and trust... it is EASY to hate them...because it hurts so d@mn much.

Very easily if you are betrayed. For instance, if your boyfriend rapes and kills your little sister then you don't feel the same about him after that.
