It depend how tall you are. The Empire State Building gets struck loads, but I doubt you're that tall. If you get caught in a storm don't go running around in the open or stand under trees. Best of all get a really tall friend to stand close by and they will be more likely to get struck than you. Easy!

reduce your chances by not carrying a lightning conductor in the form of an umbrella. Apparently you can feel your hairs stand on end immediately before you are going to be struck as the ions start streaming from your body. So, if you're quick enough...

Not very likely, in fact most unlikely. Anyway, I was very near to a lightning strike when I was a kid. Everything tingled but I wasn't hurt. The way I see it, lightning is just a superabundance of life, just too much for most of us to handle. But don't be frightened - enjoy the spectacle!

This is like self defense, if you put yourself in the right area, or not your chances go up.....stand on a golf course with a metal, club in your hand during a storm, chances go up, on a lake with a metal or graphic fishing pole in hand.....it is all in the numbers....most likely you won't if you are smart enough to get out of the rain...

well the storks of lightening are 234 metres long on average , and average thunderstorm has 57 strikes over a 100m2 distance on average. Therefore the chance is 234 squared multiplied by 57 divided by 1000000 cm times by the density of air . this comes to 5.83748783 . so 5.83748783 to 1. so rounded up to 6 to 1. id stay indoors.

You are more likely to win the lottery. Just use common sense and you will be fine. Like if you see a storm coming get off the lake. It is that simple to avoid it.

1/700,000 according to NOAA. That's probably not worth worrying about. But on the other hand, I wouldn't stand out in the open during a severe electrical storm, either.

Your chances increase with where you are at the time of a storm,
frequency of storms, etc.
Your chances of getting hit by lightning are better than chances of winning a lottery!
