I'm looking for 800 or so a month, and I can have up to 2 roommates. places I'm considering are East Village, Hoboken, Jersey City, WIlliamsburg (in Brooklyn), though I'm open to the possibility of others.

I'm a recent college grad so in addition to somewhere that's not too expensive, I'd like somewhere that's reasonably happening with lots of young people. Though maybe not TOO bustling and busy a place.

1. East Village: $800/month might be very, very difficult to find, even if you find a $2400/month with two roommates. Also, it's noisy as hell. Then again, it's probably closer to where you want to be than any of the other neighborhoods.

2. Hoboken: I don't know much about this, but the people I've known who live in Jersey swear by it.

3. Jersey City: See Hoboken

4. Billburg: It's getting increasingly expensive, so for $2400/month plan on being in a place that's not, strictly speaking, safe.

I live in Gowanus/South Park Slope in a three-bedroom with two bathrooms and two balconies for $2200/month, and I'm being slightly overcharged, so check out some of the less hip neighborhoods before you make a decision.

Good luck.

My experience in Hoboken was 25 years ago but it's a happening place! It's expensive I'm sure but maybe less expensive than lower Manhattan which would be my #1 choice if I wasn't planning on a car. I'm envious!

The East Village if you can afford it. 800 a month doesn't sound like much. If you are forced out of the city because of cost, decide on the spot with the best commute.

A total of $800 a month or x's 3 $2,400 a month? $800 isn't going to get you jack.

East Village is nice. Hoboken's better than J.C.
