Generally you know the water pump has failed because coolant flows out of the front while the engine is running. When the bearings get worn, the shaft wobbles slightly while the engine is running. This wears the seal that keeps the coolant in and the atmosphere out. When the seal wears out, coolant flows out. If too much coolant flows out of your engine, it will overheat. If it overheats and you continue to run it, catastrophic engine failure will occur. If you must continue to drive it, keep some water with you, as you will have to refill it periodically (i.e. every few minutes for a bad leak, every few days for a slight trickle). Keep an eye on the temperature gauge.

The water pump pumps coolant through the engine. When it fails completely (the impellor coming off the shaft) your engine will overheat very rapidly and will soon stop running. Water pumps usually don't go 100% down the tubes all at once. They usually start leaking at the weephole; this tells you the packing around the shaft is going 'round the bend and a replacement pump is soon warranted. It's a smart move to put a new pump on if you need one rather than pay a whopping tow bill AND have to put a new pump on.

First the bearing starts to squeak. Then coolant starts leaking out through the weep hole. Eventually you lose enough fluid that the engine cannot compensate, and the heat from the cylinders radiates out into the engine, deforming and weakening the working parts until some critical part fails or warps to the point that something seizes. At this point, your engine is ruined, and you will need to replace it. Better to replace when you see a LITTLE coolant under the car in the garage.

Usually broken pieces of the pump enter the water system. The engine overheats rapidly and if you continue to drive the engine block may overheat to the extend that you could and probably would start a serious fire.

Kabooom! That's when you need to hire a tutor or make it stay up late and study so it can pass.

Actually, the pump will no longer pump water into the engine to cool it, so the engine will overheat.

Hey when youre water pump fails your coolant isnt being cycled therefore the engine doesnt cool and eventually overheats and cracks the head or blows the gasket. they are usually inexpensive and easy to replace if you are mechanically inclined.

wont hold fluids, overheat and can damge radiator, hoses, and most importantly the engine can go up in flames. then no more car. water pumps are prtetty expensive, but you can get a rebuilt one, or one at the junk yard.

Your car will over heat. Plus you will have a puddle of antifreeze under your car or the engine will be wet. This will need to be fixed before you ruin the car
