The EU most definitely should not and must not allow Turkey to join. Right now there are at least three 'old-European' countries who, should the referendum on Turkish membership take place, would have voted against it. And it only takes one :-)) So, it's really nothing we should worry about now, since there is no chance that Turkey would meet the EU criteria in the next twenty years, or more, anyway.
First of all, there is the issue of the genocide they comitted on the Armenians. Of course, we know that the current goverment had nothing to do with it, since it happened around a century ago, but the least they could do is admit that it had happened, which is a historical fact, and apologize for it.
Then, there is the issue of Cyprus. Turkey does not recognize a member state of the EU, furthermore, is trying to split that country even more, by supporting the so-called 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus', which is, by the way, not recognized by any country in the world, other than Turkey itself.
Did you know that in Turkey children who were born outside of marriage are not allowed to go to school?!? A Turkish guy told me that a couple of years ago, and I was in a complete shock, but he 'explained' that that's 'their culture' (!?!). Can you believe that?!
Throughout the history, Turkey and it's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire, have brought nothing but bad things and misery to Europe. And they were doing that to us for five centuries! Given the chance, they would repeat that!
Geographically, it is not even a part of Europe. I mean, a very small part of it is, you can hardly see it on the map, and it's size is 23 764 square kilometres. Did you know that Kazakhstan has a part of it's territory within the borders of the European continent, and that territory's size is 148 715 square kilometres? Therefore, Kazakhstan has over six times more territory in Europe than Turkey, so, should we invite them to join us, too?? Frankly, I would always choose them over Turkey...
Turkey has never been a part of Europe in any sense that matters, nor will it ever be, not even if they tried, and they're not even trying to improve themselves. They just sit back and dream about the EU, and think that membership in it would solve all of their problems, but, of course, somebody else would have to use the magic wand, because they are not willing to do any actual hard work themselves!
And abot the USA... They don't want a strong European Union. They want a weak one, the one that wouldn't be an (economic) threat to them, the one that couldn't be powerful in any way. And that's why they want Turkey in it! Oh, whishful thinking! Because our beloved EU is even stronger than we think and it's going to be even better in the future, without Turkey in it! :-))

If you dig into the past of nearly any country in Europe, you will find atrocity and genocide. If they refuse Turkey entry, it will be a signal to all Islamic countries that Western countries truly do not wish to place them on an equal footing. This would be yet more fuel for the Extremist's fire. The Armenian genocide was a horrible thing, but it can continue to be worked on, and probably more effectively, with Turkey in the EU.

No...No..and this is not a discriminatory view.. The E.U was
founded for Europeans, There are already many problems as it
is. The joint of many so call East European Countries, has had
disastrous economic impact in the "real"Europian Members.
Maybe every country should have a long waiting period of time before joint tne Union to go through a new way of life and take
responsibility for their Political and Economical stability, before
asking for "handouts" from the rest.

When, how has the US "insisted" that the EU allow Turkey a place in the EU?
I hope the EU allows Turkey because it makes no sense whatsoever. Turkey is not in Europe and will be a burden.
But, who cares France is destroying the EU anyway.

I don't think so as well, for the following reasons:
Its per capita income is just one-third of the average EU rates.
Turkish workers will not gain the right to apply for jobs in other EU countries until after 2020.
Human rights issues.
Government Corruption.
And because of the reason you gave.

The biggest reason that the EU is not allowing them to join is their economic status. If they allow Turkey to participate in the Euro, it will devalue it. Turkey is not alone in this. I think Italy, who is a current member, is also deficient in this area as well. The EU's ideals are not as 'high and mighty' as you might think.

That is one thing to admit something, you are right in one hand, but on the other hand I think Turkey should be accepted to join the EU.
