It is his hope that my fiancee will wear it. My parents just separated after 26 years. Is it appropriate to use my father's wedding ring?

I think this is a question for your fiancé. How does he feel about it? On the face of it, I don't see anything wrong with either solution, it all depends on what symbolic meaning is put into it, and this part is very individual.

Wow. I think that is so awesome of your fiance. My father wears HIS father's wedding ring as a symbol of remembrance, and I think it's a really beautiful tribute to the many happy years that my grandparents were married. This really speaks to the kind of man that your fiance is - you should be proud to have him in your life :) So apologize for asking him to wear the ring on his right hand. Just say, "Babe, now that I've had time to think about it, I see you're totally right. I think you should wear your dad's ring and I will be honored to put it on your finger on our wedding day. I'm sorry that I didn't understand how important it was before." If you still want to get him something, how about a nice watch? You can usually get the back engraved, just like you would a wedding ring. Even if he already has a watch he wears, it can be nice to have two (my boyfriend switches between a leather-band watch for every day and a fancier silver one when he has to wear a suit). You could also do fancy cuff-links. Or if he's not into watches/man jewelry, what about a gadget? I think most men would be pretty stoked to get a GPS or an iPad or something, instead of a ring :) Or does he carry a briefcase or messenger bag to work? Or could he use a nice piece of luggage?

Sure, why not? It is yours, you can do what you want with it. Haven't you heard back in the older days that is what always happened? People would hand down their wedding rings for their children and grandchildren to use for their weddings.

Nice symbol of a broken marriage. I wouldn't use it. I want my own ring.

I don't know about approprate but worry might be bad luck becasue your dad and mom been separated for 26years and I won't want to wear it. You know what Karma might happen??? huh? so don't do it... If you both can't get new men ring then might want to find better way to get it for now until save up enough money then get better man ring.

Sure, a ring is a ring, and this one has lots of good years in it. It can be polished to look like new, very easily. Ask your fiancee his feelings....I am sure he will say sure. Good luck

i'm a true believer in karma....and i would feel that it would be bad luck to wear it if the marriage failed!
