drawings and paintings are 2 dimensional. the world as most people see it is 3 dimensional. so when you paint or draw something in perspective you are creating an optical illusion of depth.

what does that have to do with organic shapes?

ill tell you.

when you are creating an illusion (or not if it is abstract) you are drawing shapes that are negative or positive. positive shapes are the actual thing you are drawing (like a flower or car etc). negative shape is any "space" that surrounds it. (negative space is usually organic).

when you draw things that are made up of ellipses, squares, triangles, or any shape that can be formed using those three shapes it is called geometric.

however when drawing drift wood or something similar that looks like it came from nature the shapes you use to make that illusion are called organic.

simplified:

geometric= think of the shapes in your geometry class.
organic= think of an amoeba.

cubes cones and such are geometric, because when they are drawn you use squares circles and triangles to achieve an illusion of 3D.

i believe what you're talking about is organic vs. geometric. it may be easier to think of in terms of shape. a geomtric shape is any sort polygon. straight lines, hard angles, triangles, squares, etc. organic shape is anything that is not a geometric shape. curvy lines, no angles, like things you find in nature. form is just the 3D version of shape. so an organic form would be 3D objects that cannot be classified as a geometric shape (like a cube, pyramid, etc.). examples of organic form are like many sculptures.

Organic form are shapes that aren't rigid and geometric like most man-made objects. Organic forms are usually natural objects, like the human figure, plants, blobs, etc.
