My boyfriend is from Ireland, we met in the States, and he has one more year left of school. He is thinking about doing that here, in the States, but we are not sure what steps he may need to take. Any help would be great. Thanks.

He will definitely have to take the SAT to get into an American school. Moreover, he would likely have to pay much more than what it costs in his home. The reason is that Ireland's higher education is much cheaper and he won't be a resident in any US state so he'll have to pay out-of-state fees even if he goes to a public school here. Moreover, as a foreigner, he won't be eligible for any grants and it will be hard to get loans as well (no federal loans to foreigners, for example). In that sense, a private school may be a better bet.

Moreover, it's not clear that any school would give him a degree after just one year of work so he may have to do two years of work as a transfer.

Any chance he can check with his college back at home whether they would consider an exchange/visitor program and give him credits for his degree there if he took classes in the US?

well said MissElection agus slán duitse freisin. You get some right thick planks here at this time of evening.

But to answer the question it might be easier for the asker to come to Ireland to study?

And considering that I figure both of you to be about 16 maybe neither of you is old enough to be leaving home. You gotta university round the corner form your home? If not USA is a mighty big place and the Irish boys Geography might not be as strong as his ardour?
