Die hard Sox fan here, just responding with a few points:

1) Alex Gonzalez is at least as good a fielder as A-Rod...if not better...look it up...

2) We would NOT welcome A-Fraud to the Sox at this point...not with all that has gone down between Yanks and Sox and all of his faliure in the clutch...we certainly wouldn't consider it a godsend if losing Manny was the cost...Manny is an overall better hitter and run producer...plus he and Papi work...don't mess that up...

3) Manny is not a bad clubhouse guy...teammates love him, sure, he does have some moments and can flake out, but the Sox love him and so do the fans...

4) Manny's work in left is getting BETTER each year...he's made some really good plays out there and has an above average arm...he plays the wall at Fenway VERY well, and in case you haven't noticed, A-Rod leads all third basemen in errors...

Ask Yanks fans if they'd welcome Manny...I think they would, and we know how they're feeling about A-Rod right now...

This question is easy. The yankees would be losing because they wont have a 3rd baseman, they're pitching is hard enough to deal with. Nick Greene cant play that position for years to come. And Manny sure as hell cant play 3rd. And plus the Yankees have a contract under Hideki Matsui for i think 2 more years. And if they trade A-Rod before the contract is over, the Yankees loose even more money! Plus overall Alex is better than Manny. So the Red-Sox win.

The Yankees would essentially be trading away the next Bambino.

Manny would be less suited for New York than 99% of the league. What ball club other than the Red Sox would smile on "Manny being Manny?" Ramírez would fold in New York, whereas A-Rod would prosper in Boston. Remember that the Red Sox wanted him in the first place and boo him for going with the Yankees. Most BoSox fans would consider it a G-d-send.

Of course, there's a greater chance of the Yankees having a $15 million payroll next year.

Good question, and one that might depend on whether you're looking at a short-term or long-term perspective.

Both players are great offensive contributors, although Manny is obviously having the better season. Still, even in a year that has seen him being booed, ARod still has some pretty nice numbers - a .379 OBP not far off his career mark, and some good power numbers. Both players would be huge upgrades offensively for the respective teams - Manny replacing Melky Cabrera, and ARod replacing Alex Gonzalez at short, his natural position.

Defensively, it would benefit the Sox. ARod has struggled in the field this season, but he won the Gold Glove at short in the two years before he came to the Yankees. Alex Gonzalez isn't a bad fielder, but he's not of that caliber. Defensively, I think it hurts the Yankees by putting Manny in left - there aren't many worse than him, and both Cabrera and Guiel are better with the glove. Still, that stick makes up for a lot of shaky defense.

As for their effect in the clubhouse, it's tough to say. Manny has the stigma of being an airhead, and ARod has a reputation for not being able to turn teams into winners, or to get them over a hump. I think both of those are somewhat valid, but completely overblown, and any team would love to have either of those guys in the lineup.

Ultimately, I'd have to give the Bosox the advantage because of ARod's age. He's four years younger than Manny, and he still has a few years left at peak level, whereas Manny is more likely to start heading downhill soon. Unlike most hyptheticals I've seen on here, however, this one is pretty even.

I am reminded of the proposal years ago to trade Ted WIlliams even-up for Joe Di Maggio. WIlliams was not keen on the idea, and neither was Joltin' Joe.

A-Rod benefits temporarily; he gets out of the New York frying pan, but when the honeymoon is over he will be in the Boston fire.

The Yankees benefit: teams improve after they rid themselves of A-Rod.

The Red Sox lose...they don't really need him, and he is sure to choke.

Manny Ramirez mostly loses, but he is a quality player and will make the adjustment. However, he will not be happy in New York.

But stranger things have happened. Consider that Big Papi could have been a Mariner all these years...

The Red Sox would, of course. AROD is a better player, costs less (only $15M w/ TX picking up the other $10M to Manny's $20M), and isn't injured (unlike Manny). Besides, who would play 3B for the pinstripes? Despite his recent swoon, AROD is still AROD. The guy's had so few lapses in his career, is SO consistent, we can't help but assume the worst when he scuffles like he has recently.

Now, all that being said, who wouldn't want Manny in a big spot, one AB? Unfortunately, the rare one AB in a key playoff spot doesn't outweigh all the games, ab's and defensive opportunities still left in this season and beyond.

That would never happen. A-Rod says he will veto ANY trade. Boston knows A-Rod is not clutch and that Manny is. New York hates Manny, Boston hates Rodriguez. Would never happen, anyway, if it did (which it won't) New York would be better. But if it happened, who plays third for New York, Nick Green? That is a terrible trade that would not happen.

I don't think its a stupid question.I don't think it will happen but if it did then I actually think that the Red Sox would get the good side of the deal.I think it is easier for anyone to do better once they are out of New York so I think Manny would struggle and A-Rod would get back to his old self.

On one hand, it is attainable because AFraud lives in Miami in the course of the offseason and the Marlins want some thing -- even somewhat of crap, washed-up, steroids-utilising, third baseman -- to attempt to entice followers next season. That suggested, I doubt the Marlins receives him for no longer some thing no matter if the Yankees take Bell, so as that component to the tale is astounding. I, in my view, imagine Miami might want to be nuts to handle ARoid because he's a participant thoroughly and fully without upside, and he's so old now that a replace of surroundings gained't reenergize his occupation. Loria had a run very last season the position he blew money on "call" gamers yet none of them were washed-up even as he signed them. i really doubt that this deal pans out.

This will not happen, but if it does happen then I feel that A-Rod will be praised by the Boston Fans and he will get back to his hitting ways and if he is back at Short Stop for the Red Sox, then MAN Boston is the Winner all the way !!!
