They did reach the quarterfinals in 2002, but were beaten by South Korea in a penalty shootout. I really don't think they will reach the semi-finals in 2010, but in the future, they may have a chance. They have not done well in the World Cup in the past, but maybe their day will come. Every World Cup there is a team which nobody expects that reaches the semi-finals, like Croatia in 1998, Turkey in 2002, and Portugal this year. So maybe one day, Spain can do it too.

Spain had a very good showing this year at the World Cup, only exiting after a close game against second place team France. If they can step their game up just a little, they have a very good chance of being in the final four, or even winning the World Cup sometime soon.

I don't really think that Spain is going to win the Euro 2008, it didn't do a good role at the Germany 2007 World Cup, anyways it would have to face other strong countries such as the Neatherlands, Portugal, England, France, Germany, and finally Italy.

France did. Why not Spain? You just never know. Sure they seem to implode every time but look at last two WCs--jobbed by refs vs. SK and then tough draw in '06.
I would say they are closer to finally making the breakthrough than in other years where the Basques hated the Galicians and the Catalonians hated both. Now team unity is good.

i think they have a good chance. this year was tough for them because the team seemed to be full of really young players who are probably not as confident as older, more experienced players.
the great thing about football is that the teams are constantly changing so its really unpredictable who will win or make it to the semi-finals....i mean, no one thought that portugal would make it as far (first time in the semi-finals in 40 years!)...so you never know when a team will all of a sudden come out of no where and shine.

Yes, I am sure they will SOMETIME in the history of the world. Just kidding. I do think that the Spanish squad, with all of its recent disapointments have the ability to atleast reach the semi's in the next cup.

Spain throughout the years has had one of the best teams but spain can be considered the most unluckiest team in the world always getting stumped in quarter finals maximum. like 2002 against south korea they scored a legitimate goal in golden goal but the ref didnt count it. they lost that day in PKs.
