My Neighboor Totoro
Spirited Away
Castle in the Sky
Howl's Moving Castle
Kiki's Delivery Service
Ranma 1/2
Inuyasha
Fruits Basket
Ceres the Celetsial Legend (Ayashi no Ceres)
Fushigi Yuugi
There are really TONS of other ones, I have lists and lists and lists, these are just a few starter movies, and really the ones that got me turned onto anime in the first place. I recomend ANYTHING that Hayao Miyazaki has done. He is truly the greatest animator and Anime mastor EVER. I really love his work. The other thing I should Say is. I don't recomend Watching Final Fantasy until your more comfortable with the Genre. Which I know probably sounds weird, but it's sort of complicated...There are a few others that I wouldn't recomend as your first Anime introduction movies. I dunno why, but there just not something that you'll always automatically love with out a bit more experience with Anime. I hope this helped answer your question. Enjoy~

There's a whole lot of stuff out there. To just start you out I'd recommend:
Princess Monoke - great art work, and a good story
Spirited Away - Sort of like Alice in Wonderland, with out the satire, and just the wonder
Howl's Moving Castle - Enchanted house, girl with a curse, it's a fun movie.
Those are all by my personal favorite director of Anime, Miyzaki
For series, I recommend
Cowboy Bebop - It's like a western, in space. The story/charactors/music are all good.
Inuyasha - A half demon fighting evil, another good story.
Some qualified recommends -
Fushugi Yuugi - this series is what started it all for me, it's incredibly sappy and melodramatic. The characters run around all starry eyed and the art is so pretty. The story is good, but sometimes you really want to slap the heroine.
Ghost in the Shell - This was a very confusing one for me. Art was good, and it tackled some very deep questions.
Grave of the Fireflies - I cried buckets. All I'm gonna say.
Anyway, browse around. I'm sure you'll have fun. Good luck!

Series I would go with Fullmetal Alchemist. Its the best withoug being to kiddy or too Japanese.
Movie's are trickier, but I thought Read or Die had alot of action and kool.
