I,too, wanted to do my own nails. I went to Sally's Beauty Supply, talked with the woman who worked there and bought supplies: non-acid sure bond primer; low odor Acrylic Liquid; Prep B-4 an antiseptic & dehydrant; Sculpture Powder--it comes in pink and clear; Supreme #22 Large oval/flat Taper Nail Brush and I also got the dopp container (this is to hold the acrylic liquid while you work). It ran me quite a bit of $$ because I bought a battery operated nail file (similar to what they use in the salons). I have done my nails several times and even though I consider myself fairly artistic, I'm not that pleased with the results. Mainly because the battery operated nail file didn't come with the type file tips the salon uses and it doesn't produce enough power. Anyway, the nails held for maybe a week and then came off. Perhaps you could find a class that teaches how to do it (ask around). I think it would be worth the investment. Or: go to ask.com and ask, "Where can I buy acrylic nail kits to do at home?" Or try AskJeeves or Google. Good luck

Ok, I'll tell you this from personal experience. Keep having them done by a professional. I bought the whole of the materials, spent quite a bit of money, and just like you, I thought that since I had gotten them done twice a month for like three years I could perfectly replicate the process at home. Big Mistake.
It's not the same to have someone do them for you, the perspective is different, the position and the experience this person has is different, and finally, It'll take like 3 hours to file all that acrylic yourself. I don't mean to be negative, but I messed up my nails trying to do it my self. There's a reason why manicurists exist!!!!

Honestly I think Natural Nails are the best...but if you must get them done its so much easier to just let the salon do it unless you really feel you can do iton your own. The tools they have make it so easy and when you do your own its hard to get the right angel and a secure hold with a nail. If you have a good friend maybe you could practice on each other and possibly become each others maincurists?? Its an idea :) Hope that helps!!

I do my own French manicure (natural, not acrylic). It's fun and saves a lot of $ from getting it done at the salon. I buy all my supplies from Sally's:
bottle of pure acetone
clear nail polish
white nail polish
frosty white nail polish (to put over the white...looks nice and pearly)
and a nail brush.
I do my nails like how they do it in the salon. I messily apply the white, and let it dry. Then I dip the brush in acetone and clean up the white and make them look like tips. Then finish off with the clear!

First, use a 100 and fifty-100 and eighty grit nail document (no longer an emery board), and document the tops of your nails down only a touch to get rid of very nearly each and every of the acrylic. this will also get rid of any UV topcoat, if it changed into utilized for your nails. UV gel topcoat will make the eliminating procedure very confusing, so that you want to get rid of it by using filing it off earlier to soaking your nails. document your nails intently. be confident to purely take off particularly the acrylic, and do not go too some distance or you'll harm your organic nails. Then, soak your nails in organic acetone for more effective or less 20-25 minutes. even as the time is up, you may take an orange stick, or a cuticle pusher and verify out to gently scrape the acrylic off. Its ok if it would not all come off the first try. only get as a lot off as you may, and then soak them for yet another 5-10 minutes, and verify out scraping it off lower back. It takes a even as, yet with some persistence you'll actual get rid of them. only be confident no longer to tear them off, pry them off, or rigidity them off in any respect in any respect because this may reason harm for your organic nails. only soak them for a even as, then try scraping the softened acrylic off. when you're performed, make confident you wash, and dry your fingers thoroughly. Then, prepare a moisturizing hand lotion, and rubdown it into your cuticles, and nails thoroughly. Acetone has a drying result, and the hand lotion might want to be sensible to modify a number of the moisture that changed into lost even as your nails were soaking. proceed to apply hand lotion, or cuticle oil for some days later on for perfect effects.

well you could go somewhere else to get them done. I wouldn't advise doing them yourself, especially if you're not ambidextrious.
