Pens are chained to the counter because LOTS of people forget to put the pen back. As a former cashier, I know! Replacing that many pens would cost a whole lot. But which doors are you talking about? The entrance doors or the doors to the safe? Honey, no one would be able to put two feet inside that safe before alarms and sh*t went off. Only dumba**es would attempt that and get away with it.

haha! That's funny. I always take off with a pen though when someone lets me use it so I'm sure there are millions of others like me out there! A pen robbery is more common than a bank (money) robbery.

The doors are opened, because they welcome your business. The pens are chained because people have a habit of taking the pens.

Because, pretty, they want to encourage people to come in the door and be good little customers but they don't want folks stealing their pens. That's all.
