You can try a couple of things short of going to a dermatologist for the time being. Neosporin or cortisone creme will help reduce the appearance of scars; you need to apply it to the skin at least 2-3 times per day. You can also topically apply Vitamin E oil to your skin at night. I say nightime, because it is kind of oily. Additionally, you can buy some creams, gels, and patches over the counter such as Mederma, which if used consistently over several months, are also supposed to help reduce the appearance of scars. These remedies are a lot less drastic than having to go the dermatologist for laser procedings and the like, so you definitely may want to give them a try first. Good luck.

If they are new scars a cream might help. When I had severe road burn, the nurses told me to keep scrubbing off the scab and that would prevent bad scars. If it's an old wound, you could try the same thing. Recut the wound, or if its an area, use a metal scrub to abrase the skin. Then keep it scrubbed clean of scabbing and use creams that help prevent scars in the first place.

It depends on how old the scars are. If it is from a recent injury or cut, then you could try some of the products that they sell at the drugstore for minimizing scars.
