This happend a while ago, but I still remember it..lol So here's my question. I had a conversation with a guy, and had recently learned he was bi. I had no problem with it, so we were talking and joking around on AIM, and I was like 'You suck', not to be mean but because we were joking around. Then he got all serious on me "I could so hate you for that right now." I was taken aback at how personally he took it. If he hadn't noticed I am a girl, and if it were to be hurtful to anyone, it would be to me, so why did he take it so personal, he KNEW I was joking around, so why did he take it so badly?

He was being serious, I mean it, he wasn;t joking after that.

He is not comfortable with his being BI is all I can think of. As he should have known coming from a female, it was not intended to be personal. Move on and find someone who is comfortable with their sexuality :)

My guess is because he is new to this bi thing and he thought you meant it being a smart A** although that wasn't your intention. What is strange - when people are writing and they can't express HOW they are saying something -- it may have just sounded bad to him. Does that make sense? I know what I'm TRYING to say. LOL

WE all write one thing, meaning another...but the written word has NO inflection in it and is easily mistaken as to intent. Be more careful how you word things when "kidding" with writing...it can be very easily misconstrued. The is especially true with IM and email. Good luck

It sounds as if he is very insecure with his sexuality. He must feel as if you meant it to hurt him, it wasn't a joke to him. The only thing you can do is to apologize and explain it to him.

maybe he value your input and respect you. maybe that's why he took it personally. i guess you should establish time when you are joking around and when having serious conversation. all the best, my dear :)

I wouldn't have thought that response from him was him taking it badly at all...I would have assumed he was joking too.....
