Unfortunitely a great deal of black leaders have gotten older. There fire has begun to diminish , to a low flame. As a re-minder they have been fighting the struggles since they were in there 20's & 30's.....most are now in there 70's....They have carried the ball until the gas tanks are empty..Where is the new leadership? And will they have a black agenda, or they buy in to a color blind society, that ignores the cry's for black folks? And will these other minorities, stand with us, (when America aims its evil raft, and lowers its iron hand and ugly face of racism)? Or will they sit quite, and wait for fear-ness, after the storm..

The consensus (agreement in opinion), or a testimony ...was told in all black house-holds, "If you make it big, please don't for get your people and don't for get the movement. One is heredity the other is obtional. And if we don't stay together extenction is inevitable...

Civil right leaders may to arrive in many forms, (this time), they can be Oprah Winfry, Micheal Jordan, P.Diddy, Jennifer Lopez, (don't count on it).

But if we are waiting for Malcolm, and Martin, And Medger, and Marcus, Thurgood, and Dubois,"(THEY Won't Come in that form again)..but they will be watching for blacks with powerful positions...Like Condelezza Rice, and Orpah Winfry, (perhaps when she stops talking about her and Gail). ..Unless these blacks and others speak for us as they were told..No one will take us serious..

There was a swift response because this was a national issue.

Katrina was primarily the states' responsibility. The leaders of Lousiana, Mississippi, Texas, etc were foremost responsible for taking care of their citizens. Yes, the Federal Government can intervene and provide assistance, however, the States themselves have the first responsibility to their citizens.

That's the way the government is set up. That's why we did not see an immediate response from the Federal Government. In time, the Fed Government responded, but only after the State Governments showed very little preparation and capability when it came to providing for their citizens' needs.

The liberal media, in it's anti-President Bush, anti-Republican viewpoint, invented the lie that the Fed Government is required to come swooping down to the rescue. That's simply not how the U.S. governmental system works.

In the case of protecting U.S. citizens abroad, however, obviously no one U.S. State is responsible for that - the Federal Government is. That's why there was such a swift response. You can bet that if the laws were in place to allow the Federal Government to immediatly act in a natural disaster such as Katrina, we would have seen a much quicker, more prepared response.

Excellent question! Moon hit the nail right on the head. That is exactly where the responsibility lies relating to local -vs- global governmental reaction planning.
As for those of you who ALWAYS turn every issue into a black and white issue, I am completely disgusted with you. Those people who constantly cry "Racism" are the people who breath fuel into the racial fires in this world. Just stop it and see how good you really do have it. And if its still not good enough for you then you have a number of avenues to help like becoming more involved in your community, your voice in voting, or run for public office to help foster a positive atmosphere instead of bitching about it in a negative fashion. But that would take work which would require some type of education to be effective. It is sad that in this country we have un-educated people collecting welfare checks who are allowed to make public comments spewing their lack of intelligence for the rest of the world to read. Every time those comments are made, you disrespect all those millions of people who gave their lives to create this country and all those who have fought within the system to make it better.

I didn't think either one was a swift and quick rescue.. I thought the U.S. had the greatest military in the world, you would think they could get all the civilians to safety within 3 days. Must've been misled..

You are over reacting. The people in N.O. had a evacuation plan that was funded by fed. money. They chose to ignore it. After the bridges are out and the streets are flooded -its too late. All that mess in N.O. was caused by an incompetent mayor, and a governor that was not in charge. Mostly Ray Nagin..

An international crisis brought on by a foreign war is something the American government has set plans for dealing with and handling well. What does it have to do with black people?! Sometimes you kids worry me...

We're not in Lebanon, darling. And, btw, our removal of US citizens was slow compared to the Europeans.

Why don't the Israelis send support as well as bombs, since their stated target is Hezbollah and not the women and children of Lebanon?
