I've never heard of this, but my mother believes Vaseline is harmful for babies. Anyone know any evidence of this? (Also, baby powder?)

No, Vaseline is not used because it is oil based and can cause condom-failure. KY is used because it is water based and doesn't.

Vaseline is wonderful for coating little tushes to keep moisture away.
Baby powder, however, is not so good because the baby is likely to inhale some of it no matter how careful you are when you apply it.

Vaseline is a petroleum (synthetic oil) based substance that does not allow the skin to breath naturally. That is why it is not recommended as a sexually lubricate. Use a natural solution or even KY jelly instead of vaseline.
