If there are 5,280 feet in a mile and 3 feet in a yard, then you would set up the equation like this:

5280 ft / 1 mile X 1 yd/ 3 feet = 5280 ft yd/3 mile feet = 1780 yds

After you divide 3 mile ft into 5280 ft yd, the ft cancel each other out to give you the answer.
