Whatever replaces fossil fuel will be taxable and if it is grown or generated domestically it will have a great impace on the U.S. economy. That last round of oil prices seems to have spurred invention and development of alternative fuels and thats a good thing because many of more environment friendly. Ethanol actually has a higher octane level than gasoline and can run high performance vehicles at the same or better level. As far as the world's economy being harmed by that, I think that would be only if you felt that the U.S. has to consume imported energy as some kind of social obligation. ??? Don't think the world cares anything what happens to U.S. Oil as a prime energy source may be passing into decline just the way the horse did. Some of the decline seems brought on by greed and people being fed up with greed and indecent wealth in the hands of few. Long live alternative fuels (solar, electric, hydro, ethanol) and goodbye oil.

Depends on how the energy for that battery is created. If it is a chemical battery, it will likely be more dangerous than most weapons (car batteries contain a very corrosive acid which is why they can't be discarded normally).

If it is a hydrogen battery, the hydrogen has to be created somehow; often through electical means, which require more energy than they actually create.

Why do you think gas prices are so high? They are trying to make as much money as they can before they go under because of inventions are coming closer and closer to not needing oil or gas.

Everything seems to have a down side to it. I wonder what the downside to such a battery would be?
