Run a load with bleach clothes in it. Won't waste any water and the bleach will take care fo the stink.

OMG I get that awful smell all of the time cuz the machines are in the garage and I just forget that I put wash in. Then I just put it in the dryer and hope that the fabric softener sheets and febreeze did the trick...but then I found out the hard way that the smell always lingers... (I was wearing a shirt that I dried like that out and it started to reek ) SO the only thing you can do is wash it again with as much soap as you can use!

Run the washer empty with just some bleach in it. If that doesn't work then you may need to actually clean the inside of the washer - see the manufacturer's info for details. If at all possible, it is best to leave the washer open between loads to avoid mildew and odors.

I hate that smell! run the whole load again w/soap, but this time add bleach after about 8 minutes into the wash cycle (I read that detergents aren't as effective if bleach is added right away) Otherwise your load will have that icky smell even after it's dry.

Try pouring a cup of clorox bleach in, fill your washer with water, and go through the whole cycle, adding fabric softener when the rinse cycle starts. Leaving the washer lid up while not in use helps alot. Good luck.

If they are coloured clothing - use a color safe bleach like
Clorox TWO , the blue box, and soak them a few hours--
BUT do not dry in dryer first!!!
Then process as usual.
That ought to kill the mold bacterial that is causing the odor.
Good Luck!

I can tell you how to avoid this problem. Put a cap full of Lysol (concentrate-not the regular kind) in the load of clothes and even if you forget they will not mildew. I have tried it.

First you rewash the clothes! Then, when you put them in the dryer, you wash out your washer! (I thought everyone cleaned their washer anyway!) Just run a cycle with no clothes in it, complete with soap and bleach.
