This is a party that is thrown for people who are about to be married. Rather than the guys getting together for a stag of the ladies for a shower. Now both celebrate together as a Jack and Jill.

Another way for engaged people to pick up a couple of bucks and presents before the wedding. They used to throw stags for the guys and showers for the girls but given some of the stags I've attended I can see why most women would prefer their fellas not to have one. The jack and jill thing is like a shower that men must attend, they generally divide up into gender groups anyway and the men tell the groom to be how whipped he is for not having a stag. You wouldn't believe what the women talk about!

A Jack and Jill party is usually a bridal shower or baby shower in which both men and women are invited instead of the usual women only.
