If there was a bomb in some crowded build and we caught someone who knew where it was or someone kidnapped a child and wouldn't tell the police where the child was hidden so the police tortured them for the information would it be acceptible or should it be punishable?

Let's turn it around -- what if you were accused of planting a bomb or kidnapping a child but you didn't do it. The police torture you. Would that be ok?

Aside from this angle and the fact that the right to torture could very easily be abused, the fact remains that torture does not work. People who are tortured will say anything to make the torture stop. Even incriminate other innocent people. It has been shown over and over again that information obtained through torture is not reliable.

I don't have a problem with extreme messures during extreme circumstances. However, like everything else, bleeding hearts will always say that you shouldn't do this, shouldn't do that. No matter if a victim is a small child that will never get to see his 5th birthday if the kidnapper won't tell police where he stashed him. That kidnapper has rights. To hell with the child.

If it would save lives I should think it would be allowable, however it could be easily corruptable. It should be heavily regulated and needs to be allowed from the highest parts of government.
