Beofre you go on a quest to find your little guy a mate. You should consider. Bettas are happier alone. All bettas male and female will fight with each other. (Females tend to beat each other up for about a week before a pecking order gets worked out.) Mating is a rough experince for both bettas, and the owner. Males, and females can't be housed in the same tank. A mating can produce over a hundred eggs. Do you have the room for a jar for each and every one of the males? If you think you're ready you need to do a lot more reading, and prep work before you get the female. See bettatalk.

I can tell you my personal experience with adding females for my male betta did not turn out as nice as I had hoped. I got three females for my male in a 20 gallon tank and the poor females were just harrassed all the time. It's a good thing I got three of them because I am sure he would have worried them to death if there had been only one of them. In the end it was so disturbing I ended up giving him to a friend and just keeping the females. The females are not very pretty in comparison, just look like very plain fish.

The male Betta, aka siamese fighting fish, are better being solitary fish. They do not get along with any other fish. Although I have seen them in tanks with other bigger fish, I don't recommend it - they are still better off alone. As for getting a female, you may want to keep checking other pet stores about getting a female. I don't know their reasoning behind not selling you a female. Also, a fun thing to do, but not often, is hold up a mirror in front of your male betta and he will think it's another male. He will puff up his fins and gills - ready to fight. It's amazing how beautiful they are.

it is not any longer that they are short-tempered, that is purely how they functionality. besides the undeniable fact that the bettas bought in puppy shops are typically too previous to reproduce effectively, and that is a time ingesting, severe priced procedure. If executed incorrectly, you should finally end up with 2 useless bettas. it is not any longer extremely how betta breeding works: A male contained in the wild ought to construct his nest and function it waiting. If a lady passes by and is gravid, (finished of eggs) the male will charm to her to go back less than his nest, and he will "embody" her. This act motives the female to expel the eggs. The then possibilities the eggs up and places them in his nest. they could repeat this procedure many cases, typically ending with 100-500 eggs. the female will swim away even as they're finished, and the male has a tendency to the nest. See the issue? contained in the wild, the female is going willingly, and leaves even as it is over. In an aquarium, there is not any damage out. If the female isn't waiting, the male ought to harass her, or if she would not go away, he will take care of his nest and attack her.

bettachris is a betta master and is more than happy to answer any fish questions.

but from what he told me, that is a really bad idea, hybreds are usually not meant meant to live and can be danagerous to wild population if done by stupid people.

betta splenden or fighting fish should only be bred with other bettas.

breeding a betta splenden with other bettas like betta imbellis and smaradgina is possible but if you can't find a female betta you wont find any of these bettas. since there are over 150 types of bettas, betta splenden is most common.

try on line.

I don't think a male batta will mate with any other female fishes, different fishes have different mating habbits. Surf the internet for "betta for sale" to see if you can buy a female via mail.

Good luck!
