Don Quixote was a hopeless, infirm, old dreamer and romanticizer who could accomplish nothing of practical value and was presented as an amusing metaphor for the errors of human life, particularly that of romanticizers. The Lone Ranger was a vigorous and capable fellow who saw things for what they were and always accomplished what he set out to do. So they were very different. But each had a side kick who added contrast and complemented their abilities. There have been such duos throughout literature and story telling. In this way they are similar despite their differences.

No, they're not. Don Quixote lived totally in his head, interpreting reality in a way that was completely unparallel with what was actually going on. He saw a frumpy, homely woman as this refined and beautiful princess whom he could impress with his valor, for example. Also, he rode a mule and pretended it was a fine steed. He was a total dreamer, much more like Walter Mitty than like the Lone Ranger. No comparison there whatsoever. The Lone Ranger actually did things, and did save people. Don Quixote just looked at his everyday asininity as valiant exploits that greatly benefited humankind.

No, the Lone Ranger was a television program written and produced by subversives for the purpose of fomenting resentment and distrust among youngsters for people of authority and power. The end result was the hippie movement and demonstrations of the late 60s and early 70s.

I don't think so.
The heart of Quixote is the story of an old idealist who takes up arms despite his obvious inability to overcome his age and its illness.
I see none of that in the Lone Ranger...
