I spent years on the road singing, and my throat was always a mess. I tried evrything under the sun, and was constantly on antibiotics. These days, I just don't have a problem, and I'll tell you what I do:
Every night before bed I gargle with hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) without rinsing.
However, I wouldn't play with a throat infection. If you have Strep
throat, it will wreak havoc with your immune system and make you very sick and tired. Best go through a round of antibiotics on this one, and use my technique for preventive medicine.

Yeah, a doctor would be a great start. If you have an infection you're not treating, it could end up costing you in the long run. If you haven't gotten looked at, please do yourself the favor to make sure you don't have to be on antibiotics. Even if you're not insured, there are plenty of clinics and care providers who can help you treat this problem before it gets worse. You could be put on anything from penicilin, ammoxacilin, to some more heavy duty antibiotics or even antibiotic injections (NOT FUN!)
If you're looking to treat the symptoms, try gargling warm salt water, OTC pain relievers, warm tea, stay away from anything too harsh or drying (mouthwash, or even most throat sprays)

Years ago my natural doc turned me onto Echinacea tincture to boost the immune system; Golden Seal caps; it's a natural antibiotic. Also Bromelain caps taken on an empty stomach acts as an anti-inflammatory. The Empty stomach is the key there.
I used these remedies on my kids growing up and kept them off the docs' antibiotics...I Loved it!

You probably need antibotics. Sounds like you need to go see a doctor. Gargling with salt water can help. Put about 2 teaspoons (if you can handle it) into 8 ounces of really warm water.

Mix one tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in one cup of warm water. Gargle swish and then swallow it. The vinegar will kill all the bacteria. I know it sounds gross but it does work. Pure Honey kills bacteria too.

I'd gargle with colloidal silver, it kills over 650 different strains of bacteria, including staph and strep.

gargle with Listerine....as often as you think fit.
Avoid taking antibiotics if you can. It's bad for health.
