how can you make a short film e.g a string of pictures and text put to music on the computer?

Lots of ways!
Trouble is it depends on your level of IT skill.
1. Write a program to spool the photos and play the music
2. Use a video editing package (a good simple one is Studio 10), this will also allow you to add titles and wipes / fades (it really is very good!). There are also other cheaper options in this cateogry, but I've not used any of them, Windows Movie Maker sucks big big big time!
3. You could even use a screen saver maker to do the sort of thing you want.
4. I think there are some websites that will allow you to create slideshows (after all this is actually what you want to do).
5. Download some slideshow making software.
If you really want to edit a movie then go for video editing software, if you just want to show pictures and play a tune then go for a slideshow maker.

well if you are using windows and you would like to make a clip must have the files then import them to windows "movie maker" and it is pretty easy from there.

yes if your using XP look in movie maker downloadable from the windows site or media centre

yeah i was thinking of windows movie maker, also you need a camera and software.
