you are very perceptive. I'm going to write my uncle who works at a Ketchup factory right now.

there's more ketchup in the bottle than there is in the packet so it's best to shake well for the best results.....plus if u tried to shake a ketchup packet there wouldnt be too much movement since the packet is very small

It is a matter of dilution. In small quantities (the little packets) the concentrations are in such small quantities as to stay in suspension (all mixed up), but in the case of the bottle, there is sufficient am mount to dispurse.
I hope this helps,
Lonnie

Because you can't shake a ketchup packet...besides, they are so small that they don't need to be shaken. In large bottles, you need to shake them to get all of the ketchup to mix together because there is so much of it.

shaking won't do anything to a packet because the container has to stay still in order for the shaking to do any good, that is, to mix the liquid with the rest of the ketchup. i squeeze the packets back and forth to mix it.

A packet is too small to shake! I mean you could but there's no liquidy stuff @ the bottom of a Ketchup packet, lol. Ewww...

Contents tend to settle in the bottle over time. The oil floats to the top and sediments to the bottom even in something as thick as catsup. That's hardly an issue with packets.

In the bottles, some of the sauce will stick to the inner plastic and dry up. you need to shake to keep it all in liquid form.
in a packet, this problem is non-existant.

I think it's because ketchup can be so damn hard to get out of the bottle. You have to "shake well" after you open it just to get it out.
