The notion that Louisville Slugger supplies all the bats for MLB is incorrect. Yes, they are the official bat of major league baseball, but as this article mentions, there were 48 companies that supplied bats to major leaguers in 2003:

According to the Slugger Museum, they make bats for about two-thirds of today's major leaguers:

Players can order whatever bats they like, but for those who don't, or who have just been called up to a team, there is always a collection of bats for their use. Players will also often use their teammates' bats, and when they find something they like, they'll order some for their own use.

Most likely the ones who have bat contracts - someone just coming up would probably not have their own personalized bat yet - minor leaguers don't get paid all that well to buy their own.
