I heard a song the other day called "Lets Plan A Robbery." It wouldnt be a generalization to say that every rap song contains something in it that is immoral. Everything has to do with; Money, Fu**ing bit*hes, Drugs, cars, and killing people. There comes a point in your life when you cant be 45 years old, driving down the street listening to gangster rap in your 94 corolla, I feel embarrassed for the people I see like this today... Post Script: its not music

How in the world does this question make me a racist? Was there one mention of ethnicity?

I dont think that rap music is the sole downfall of our society, but it does play a huge role. Not only do children think that its cool, they start to talk like idiot and say words like "hatin" and "Word"

Gekko, i know its not helping a damn thing.. But it is hurting it... And the stuff you see in movies is NOT real life.. While the shi* rappers are saying is "real." And it will continue to be real so long as they keeping talking about it.. These wannabe Gangsters need to let go of there pride and quit thinking they are a victim.

Yes, I completely agree, and would also add that MTV is the biggest contributor to the utter destruction of our youth. There's nothing on there but rap and shows about teens having sex with each other. Glamorizing criminals is no way to encourage the next generation.

And it's hurt the black population the most. Black children look up to these people as role models - unfortunately because a lot of black kids don't have fathers to do that for them. So as they grow up all they know is "gang life". And they perpetuate the problem.

I don't. Rap/hip hop music is just the current, easy scapegoat (like rock and roll was years ago), with video games running a close second. And besides that, there are "immoral" songs in just about every genre of music, not just rap/hip hop. Like a few others here, I've also been listening to rap/hip hop music since I was a kid, and I turned out just fine (high school and college graduate, married, no kids out of wedlock and no rap sheet). The downfall of society is lack of personal responsibility and poor parenting, plain and simple.

As for your statement that "it wouldnt be a generalization to say that every rap song contains something in it that is immoral," your assumption is completely incorrect. That's like saying "All rock is about is biting the heads off small animals and destroying your instruments on stage," or "All jazz is about is guys with bad hair and a baritone sax making corny elevator music." As fans of either of these genres will tell you, that is certainly not the case. It IS a wide-sweeping generalization because your opinion is obviously very one-sided. It's based on only one dimension of the genre instead of the genre as a whole. Not all rap/hip hop is like what you see on TV or hear on mainstream radio stations. If you were willing to dig a little deeper into the genre, you'd discover that not all rap emphasizes materialism, misogyny or is filled with profanity (i.e. - conscious rap, Christian rap, etc.). As a matter of fact, there are a lot of hip hop artists out there who don't fit the "cookie cutter rapper" mold and talk about subjects other than money, sex, drugs and murder. For example:

- Little Brother
- Mos Def
- Talib Kweli
- Common
- De La Soul
- Dead Prez
- The Roots
- Madlib (and his alter-ego, Quasimoto)
- Five Deez
- Ugly Duckling
- Slum Village...(and plenty more)

Unfortunately, you'll rarely (if ever) find any of them in the mainstream media because for the most part, good ol' Corporate America has flooded the market with whatever "trend du jour" makes them the most money as opposed to actual talent, variety and substance.

I highly suggest that the next time you feel the need to judge something you use a little common sense, critical thinking and, most importantly, that you have all the facts first.

Rap music is not the downfall of our society. By your rationale shouldn't all R rated movies be banned? Plenty of people see horribly violent movies with drug use, F**ing as you said it, and everything else under the sun. I for one would think seeing something would have a much more profound effect on someone then hearing it. Hell, maybe we should ban violent video games too, send people to jail like someone on here stated. Come on, stupid people who do stupid things because they hear it on a rap song, see it on a movie, or play it in a game are just that, stupid. I've listened to rap since I was a kid and you don't see me doing crazy ganster s**t, the only law I break is the speed limit from time to time. And like other people on here said, all music is that way, so just because you don't like a particular genre you shouldn't attack the morals of the people who make it or listen to it. Perhaps you should look around you, most music is about the artist's experiences and life, and guess what, all that crazy gangster s**t you hear in rap is really happening and people are stuck in it. Ignorant people bashing them isn't helping a dam thing.

A better question would be....who thinks you should go play in traffic?

Rap music is NOT the downfall of our society. I will agree that MUCH of the rap music out today is very negative. You're right. Alot of the rap is about Money, Fu**ing bit*hes, Drugs, cars, and killing people. But what about other genres of music? We need to take the music for just what it is....entertainment. If you dont like it, dont listen.

You can't solely blame rap music for the downfall of our society because there are more factors than that and music alone is not the culprit. People said the same thing about rock and roll in the 60's. There are negative images portrayed in every facet of society, from music, movies, media etc. Yes, I do think that rap does not portray a positive image. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.

Country and rock are just as full of "Money, Fu**ing bit*hes, Drugs, cars, and killing people". Honestly, rap's been around for 30+ years. It's not going anywhere and it's not causing the downfall of society. It's simply music - some of it is great (mostly the stuff you don't hear on the radio), some of it is utter crap.

In no way does that make you a racist, i know many people that arent white that hate rap, but anyways i agree that rap can really controversial and i hate it (most of it, with some exceptions, like British rap lol) but most other genre's can also be derrogatory. I think if you want to get away from the controversy start listening to religious music lol

house of the rising sun? lucy in the sky with diamonds? anything by the stones? Rap, like Rock and Roll, dancee, grunge etc are all products of a sub culture, groups of alienated teens/adults who express themselves and the plights of others whilst breaking down musical/artistic and culutral barriers. I think some of the greastest and most meaningful songs of the lst three decades are rap/hip hop.
If you really want to rile against something, step up miss dione, spiers
and mr timberlake.

Ps I am a skinny white guy from the uk, so there music is not only cross cultural but also immune to racial links. whoo hoo

Rap isn't music, nothing but ignorant people, cussing, talking about rape, money, pimping, murder, guns, I think it should be outlawed, and if caught listening to it, 1st offense, probation, 2nd offense, jail time, What cracks me up is these commercials on TV using rap in them, Like McDonalds Burger King, Checkers, I won't even go to them places anymore, MTV is a joke along with VH1 which was supposed to be for the older generation when it made is debut, but that quickly changed, Them channels are not even programmed in my remote
