Depending on where you pick and how many teams you have in the league and whether it's keeper or no keeper, I would take a RB in the 1st round, then a stud WR in the 2nd unless there's an absolute steal of a RB there. Get 2 RBs and 2WRs in the first 4 rounds and your team should be good to go

Obviously, a lot depends on what spot you pick at and how many teams there are. Let's assume it's a 12 team draft (which should be the standard, 8-10 team leagues are light-weight)...

RB's are essential. Not enough people realize this. Peyton Manning should be the only non-rb to crack anyone's top ten list:

#1-3 have to be these 3 guys, without question (some may take one over another, but these are your top 3)

1. Larry Johnson (1500 yards in 9 games last year -come on - how is he not everyone's #1?)
2. Shaun Alexander
3. Ladanian Tomlinson

#4-6 (these guys are a little interchangeable, but their your next 3 best available)

4. Clinton Portis (#1 RB on a playoff team, run first offense)
5. Tiki Barber (probably deserves #4, but NYG have the toughest schedule this year, and he's over 30 years old)
6. Edgerrin James (again, could be a monster this year - but Cards have yet to prove they can or will run the ball)

#7 - 12 (it's already a pot luck at this point, but here's mine)

7. Rudi Johnson
8. Steven Jackson (no more sharing w/ Marshall)
9. Lamont Jordan
10. Peyton Manning (easily best QB available - could be a steal here, but you'll regret it if you don't get 2 quality RB).
11. Ronnie Brown (Dolphins backfield all to himself, weak schedule).
12. Cadillac Williams (expecting a big year)

Honorable mention (could crack 1st round):
- Dominic Davis
- Chad Johnson

If anyone takes someone not on this list in your first round, they are doing you a favor. (of course, there are a couple of position battles going on now: Rhodes/Addai, Mcallister/Bush, etc that could affect you by draft time)

Draft order is key for this question.

Personally, I would see a first round go in this order (1st to 10th)
Larry Johnson
Shaun Alexander
LaDainian Tomlinson
Clinton Portis
Edgerrin James
Tiki Barber
Peyton Manning
LaMont Jordan
Steven Jackson
Domanick Davis

if you have a 12-team league, then 11th and 12th would most likely be Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams (but they could go a little earlier than Steven and Domanick).

Notice that all the first round selections, except one, were RBs. You need to select a monster point grabber with your first selection. Also, you should determine a flexible drafting strategy depending on your draft position.

Good luck with your draft.

Depends who is still on the board. Generally, RBs are in high demand due to the fact that every team starts 2 but in real football, there is usually only one good one on a team. However, if you are late in the first round, you might want to spend a pick on Peyton Manning or Steve Smith if they are still on the board. Getting the best player at a position is never a bad thing. That being said, the safe pick is a good running back.

I would do what ESPN.com says to do...pick a running back early, pick a running back often. There is a good list in your answers that starts with Larry Johnson and Shawn Alexander, you should look at that and determine who to pick based on your draft position. You can pretty much guarantee that the "best" guys will go first, so if you are further down the draft you should look towards the "better" guys. Good luck!

Take a good strong RB like Shaun Alexander, Larry Johnson, LaDanian Tomlinson or Tike Barber.

You definetly need a running back. I would take someone you can count on and who isn't often injured. I would not take Peyton Manning because his offense will be worse without the Edge. If you pick late in the first round I would select either Cadillac Williams or Ronnie Brown, because they are only getting better

First, determine which position the points system your league is slanted towrds. I play in one league where running backs are king, but in the other league I play in, quarterbacks are favored by the point system.

So, I'll give you a top two at each major point producing position:

QB - Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer (if healthy)
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson
WR - Steve Smith, Chad Johnson
