My favorite LEGO set is from several years ago. Classic Castle, baby!
Set 6060 Knights Challenge from 1989. A very colorful and fun Castle set.

If I had to pick a more recent set, I would pick set 10027 Train Shed. Definitely one of the best LEGO sets of recent years.
